Five new QLD state schools coming in 2021

Following the opening of eight new state schools at the start of this year, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said an additional five state schools were on track to open next year.

The Palaszczuk Government today announced it had awarded contracts to build a high school in Baringa (Caloundra South), a special school and primary school at Palmview and a primary school at Pimpama.

Construction is already underway at a new vertical high school at Dutton Park in Brisbane which is also due to open next year.

“Our track record of delivering new schools on time is apparent for all to see,” the Premier said.

“Even though last week we opened the most schools on one day in more than 30 years, our record delivery of new school infrastructure is not complete.

“These are some of the fastest growing regions in the state.

“That’s why we’re deliver the education infrastructure these communities need.”

FK Gardner and Sons has been awarded the contracts to construct the four new schools.

Construction will commence over the coming months on all four schools and it’s expected the projects will support more than 950 construction jobs – another economic boost of our local communities.

Education Minister Grace Grace said the Palaszczuk Government was planning for the future and delivering now to respond to the rapid growth that we are expecting in these suburbs.

Ms Grace said the new high school at Caloundra South would be located near Baringa State School which was opened by the Palaszczuk Government in 2018.

“The $127.25 million high school will be built in three stages and feature an administration area; a library; food studies and hospitality area; junior general learning centre; sports centre; lecture theatre; science centre; junior applied technology area; staff centre; canteen and covered areas; staff and student amenities; an oval; and bus and car set-down facilities,” she said.

“The primary school and special school at Palmview will both be built in two stages constructed on a combined campus with a high school also planned for delivery on the site in 2023.

“Palmview’s $63.8 million new primary school will feature an administration centre, library, multi-level classroom blocks, and a sports and music centre,” she said.

“A new $68.8 million special school will feature an administration and library building, classroom blocks, activity centre, skills centre and a hospitality centre.

“The primary school in Pimpama would provide additional capacity for Prep to Year 6 students and increase enrolment capacity in one of the state’s fastest growing regions.

“The $59.6 million school will feature administration and corporate services facilities, prep and junior learning centres, a specialist STEM and music centre, a central covered area, library, canteen, sports oval, staff and student amenities and a multi-purpose hall.”

Ms Grace said the projects were building on the Queensland Government’s record investment in new schools and local jobs.

“The four new schools are an investment of close to $320 million in education infrastructure, building on the hundreds of millions we invested to open eight new schools in 2020,” she said.
