Did you receive the latest anti-bullying pack?

As the new school year gets underway, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Dan Tehan, Minister for Education, have sent a pack to all schools in Australia this term including a letter encouraging schools to take part in the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence on 15 March 2019.

The National Day of Action is a national movement against bullying and cyberbullying. Let School News know if you have anything planned to mark this day and we will promote it in our newsletter.

The pack contains useful information for school communities about the National Day of Action, and about the recently announced Australian Student Wellbeing Framework.

The national Framework will support all Australian schools as learning communities that promote student wellbeing, safety and positive relationships. All states, territories, education authorities and a range of experts contributed to the design and content of the new Framework during a review managed by Education Services Australia.

The Australian Student Wellbeing Framework has five key elements that focus on:

  • Leadership: inspiring positive school communities through visible leadership
  • Inclusion: creating an inclusive and connected school culture
  • Student Voice: providing opportunities for authentic student participation
  • Partnerships: building effective family and community partnerships
  • Support: a shared understanding of wellbeing and support for positive behaviour.

“This is an important initiative for all Australian school communities … evidence has shown that students who feel connected, safe and secure are more likely to be active participants in their learning and to achieve better physical, emotional, social and educational outcomes. ESA is proud to have supported the Framework’s development.”

Andrew Smith, CEO of Education Services Australia

The national Framework is aligned to state, territory and other national wellbeing and safety initiatives and to the Australian Curriculum, the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and the Australian Professional Standard for Principals.
