A grassroots charity is offering every Australian teacher and parent access to free eczema resources as part of a passionate campaign to support the health and wellbeing of children battling this devastating skin condition. With one in three children under age 6 struggling with eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis), Eczema Support Australia is supporting schools to better support students living with the extremely itchy and painful condition that has a huge impact on quality of life, and which is often misunderstood. “School-age children with eczema often experience physical, emotional and educational struggles, which jeopardise their long-term well-being,” says Ms Funk, whose twin sons have battled chronic eczema since birth. “The condition can lead to low confidence, absenteeism from school and isolation, while younger children in early learning are also at risk of adverse health and well-being when their needs are not met,” according to Ms Funk.
