Scissor scandal: The sacking of a deputy principal who cut a student’s hair exposed a culture rift at a prestigious boys’ school.

and a more resilient place&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The school council decided in early March <a title&equals;"" href&equals;"http&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;abc&period;net&period;au&sol;news&sol;2018-03-12&sol;private-school-tries-to-repair-damage-after-haircut-sacking&sol;9539774" target&equals;"&lowbar;self">to fire Mr Brown for &&num;8220&semi;contravening disciplinary procedures&&num;8221&semi; after he trimmed a boy&&num;8217&semi;s hair on school photo day&period;<&sol;a><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The sacking triggered mass protests by students calling for &&num;8220&semi;Browny&&num;8221&semi; to be reinstated&comma; a vote of no confidence in headmaster Dr Michael Davies<strong> <&sol;strong>and school council&comma; and a statement from the 2017 school captains calling for<strong> <&sol;strong>Dr Davies to resign&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>In one instance&comma; Trinity no longer promotes the qualities that we knew and loved&comma;&&num;8221&semi; the open letter to Dr Davies and Mr Lyle stated&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The letter denounced what was described as &&num;8220&semi;a dramatic shift from Trinity&&num;8217&semi;s position as a non-selective&comma; non-elite school dedicated to holistic personal development&comma; to an institution focused on &&num;8216&semi;exceptional&&num;8217&semi; performance defined by ATAR excellence&comma; growth and profit&&num;8221&semi;&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The letter said the former captains were &&num;8220&semi;immensely proud&&num;8221&semi; of everything Mr Brown had done for the school and expressed concern about the new review into governance&comma; saying it was &&num;8220&semi;unnecessary and will not serve the interests of the school community&&num;8221&semi;&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The drama <a title&equals;"" href&equals;"http&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;abc&period;net&period;au&sol;news&sol;2018-03-22&sol;battlelines-drawn-in-trinity-grammar-haircut-fight&sol;9576926" target&equals;"&lowbar;self">exposed a deepening rift over the direction of the all-boys school in Melbourne&&num;8217&semi;s eastern suburbs<&sol;a>&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>A week after the sacking&comma;
