National Captital Educational Tourism Project

The National Capital Educational Tourism Project (NCETP) is a partnership program of 23 cultural institutions and attractions located in Canberra, plus the ACT Government, delivering an awareness program that ensures schools and teachers throughout Australia understand the importance of a visit to Canberra in supporting a range of learning areas including civics and citizenship, Australian history and culture, science, art and environment. The NCETP produces publications and teacher conference displays, develops teacher programs, and assists in improving the overall education experience through ongoing research projects. Through the canberraexcursions.org.au website teachers can find information about all components of planning a school excursion.

Free education resources to support health and well-being in children with Eczema

A grassroots charity is offering every Australian teacher and parent access to free eczema resources as part of a passionate campaign to support the health and wellbeing of children battling this devastating skin condition. With one in three children under age 6 struggling with eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis), Eczema Support Australia is supporting schools to better support students living with the extremely itchy and painful condition that has a huge impact on quality of life, and which is often misunderstood. “School-age children with eczema often experience physical, emotional and educational struggles, which jeopardise their long-term well-being,” says Ms Funk, whose twin sons have battled chronic eczema since birth. “The condition can lead to low confidence, absenteeism from school and isolation, while younger children in early learning are also at risk of adverse health and well-being when their needs are not met,” according to Ms Funk. Eczema Support Australia has developed two free tools for educators to support the health and wellbeing of children with eczema: The Eczema Awareness Course for Educators is a 45-minute e-learning course which promotes greater awareness of the complexities surrounding eczema and the impact it has on a child’s life and education.
